SMD - Surface Mount Manufacturing

In 2007 I purchased a LOW COST Madell PX3702 Pick & Place Machine.

PLEASE NOTE - These comments are based on MY EXPERIENCE WITH A 2007 VINTAGE Madell Pick and Place machine.
I have NO IDEA of what their CURRENT MODELS are like.

MY PX3702 DOES actually WORK and uses USED FUJI FEEDERS which seem to perform very reliably.
The SOFTWARE supplied with my machine DOES WORK, but I find it to be POORLY DESIGNED and simply FRUSTRATING.
My decision to purchase a low cost MADELL machine was correct as it got me up and running on SMD production rather than having to pay someone else to build my products.

I am now running my PX3702 Pick And Place using MY OWN SOFTWARE.
WHY did I WRITE an entire PICK AND PLACE system software package? - BECAUSE I COULD!! and because I wanted to CHANGE almost every aspect of machine operation.

DOWNLOAD pickandplace.zip and take a look. (Includes Delphi SourceCode).

PLEASE NOTE : I have NO PLANS to start building pick and place machines. This was purely done as a HOBBY PROJECT to suit my own needs and to prove that I could.

FEATURES

  • Designed for WINDOWS 7 32 or 64. Works on XP and Vista also.
  • Uses the same DeskCNC CNC Controller.
  • METRIC and IMPERIAL.
  • Very easy to set up and to modify jobs.
  • Uses TWO USB2 manual focus WEB CAMERAS. This eliminates the need for special frame grabber cards.
  • Requires only ONE part photo to allow placement at ANY angle.
  • Supports 5 way NOZZLE CHANGER, including settings to control the motions required to park and pick nozzles.
  • Supports REEL FEEDERS, TRAY FEEDERS, and VIBRATION FEEDERS.
  • Automatic rotation to compensate for feeder position. eg Left, Front, Back, Vibratory Tube.
  • Written using EMBACADERO RAD STUDIO XE - Delphi, including the VISION system, which is of my own design and is based on NORMALISED CROSS CORRELATION.
The vision system I created is working more reliably for me than the results I had with the original machine software, but mine is definitely slower.
I hope to improve the speed of the vision system in the near future.
